Jessica Stone Biography
Jessica Stone is
a doula and home birth midwifery student in Denver, Colorado.
She was born in Denver in 1983 to her mother, Deanna, a graphic
artist, and her father, Ronald, a mechanical manager. Her
parents divorced when she was very young, and she grew up with
her mother and sister in Littleton, Colorado. As a child,
Jessica was passionate about environmentalism and social
justice, and was preaching to her family about the virtues of
living green long before the phrase was coined.
In 2003 Jessica was inspired to join the Colorado Army National
Guard after seeing their response to a series of devastating
forest fires in Colorado. She joined as a Public Affairs
Specialist and was deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in support
of Operation Enduring Freedom from 2004-2005, where she worked
as a print and photo journalist. After
returning home, Jessica enrolled in the Metropolitan State
College of Denver where she intended to get a double major in
Environmental Science and Spanish so that she could join the
Peace Corps and do a mission in South America after leaving the
National Guard. Her plans were put on hold in 2007, however,
when she discovered she was pregnant.
After having her son, Elijah, Jessica realized that her calling
was to birth. She began the process of becoming a doula, and
eventually enrolled in a pre nursing program at her old college.
She is still passionate about environmentalism and considers it
to be her second love. She left the National Guard in January of
2010 to devote her time to attending births as a doula and
becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife.
Jessica owns a home near the mountains where she lives with
Elijah and her mother, Deanna. When she's not attending or
studying births, Jessica enjoys reading, writing, crafting,
gardening, cooking, camping, hiking and studying the
environmental movement and holistic living.
