Life Planning

Find a partner?

If your long-term goals include the marriage, kids, dogs, and picket fence, don’t feel bad: it’s normal. But if you jump the gun on this one, you can lose big. The best way to make sure you don’t get stuck holding someone else’s bag is to make sure that you’re standing on your own two feet at the onset, and that you’ll be able to still stand in the event that someone comes full-throttle into your life only to leave (or be sent away) soon thereafter. Make sure any potential partner knows that you’re not a piece of property, but you are instead a human being who has taken on the very weighty responsibility of motherhood, and that providing for your child is your first and foremost responsibility. Do not let go of your career goals regardless of any promises made without a marriage, and do not let up on your high standards for the men you go out with. Although some people believe that single mothers have fewer dating options than those who don’t have children, remember that a woman who can take care of herself is a cherished commodity in the dating realm. If you have shown that you can take care of yourself, don’t settle. Although some don’t want you to believe it, your options are endless!
